Happy World Card Making Day! I was lucky enough to have several hours free today to spend in my craft room, after a very busy week. It was the perfect way to celebrate the day. 😊
Today I’m sharing a Halloween card I made that was inspired by Chari Moss. I made a few changes but I loved how she brought in other materials to make the card and I wanted to do the same.
This card features the Costume Party stamp and die set from Lawn Fawn. Those designers really just get me because this set is exactly my style and makes just my kind of card.
The background was made by blending Stormy Sky and Dusty Concord inks. I die cut it with my favorite Stitched Windy Backdrop. I then cut a Stitched Hillside Border out of Black Licorice cardstock and made a border for the whole card using the same cardstock and the largest of the Large and Small Stitched Rectangles dies.
To make the trees, I blended some Lawn Fawn River Rock ink on watercolor paper and cut it with the Birch Trees dies. I like that the paper gives it some texture and makes it look a little rough. I then stamped the characters from the Costume Party set and colored them with Zig markers. They’re just so cute!
The “toilet paper” is micropore tape, which I found in the pharmacy section of the grocery store. It’s basically surgical tape. I took a big section, folded it in half so it would stick to itself, and then cut it into skinnier strips. I like that it adds something to the card that feels different than paper, and it just looks fun! I think any adhesive would show through the tape, so I only glued it behind the outer border where it would be hidden.
The most challenging part of this card was figuring out the order in which to adhere everything so that I could have different layers. I wanted the TP to go behind some trees and in front of others, so that took some planning.
I made two of these cards at the same time, and on one of them I experimented with putting foam tape behind a couple of the trees. I liked how it looked but I think it made the border around the edge of the card look a little strange, since everything couldn’t all lay flat. For that reason I like the flat version better, but I think if I make this card again I’ll try to add more dimension somehow.
