Kind Of A Big Dill

This was a design by Grace that I have recreated twice now. I made a card like this back in November but forgot to take a picture of it, and I always take a picture of every card I make. So I decided to just create it again.

The first time I made this card I used coloring stencils on the pickles and I have to say, I prefer using markers. I don’t normally purchase coloring stencils but I decided to try it for this set because it seemed like an easy way to fill in the background of the jar. I do think that was easy, but coloring it with markers was equally easy. And I actually think using the stencils on the pickles was more time consuming because it meant having to stop and get the stencil lined up perfectly every time and watch for not getting ink outside the stencil, instead of just simply coloring them in. I used markers to color everything the second time (on the card above) and I liked it better.

Grace’s original card used patterned paper that I don’t own to make the “floor”, so I recreated the look by using the Skinny Stripes stencil to add black lines to a piece of Narwhal cardstock. I cut it to 1 3/4″ high and that worked perfectly.

I do love that green plaid paper 💚
This was the original card I made using the coloring stencils. At least I was able to receive this picture after I sent it! 😊 I used Lawn Fawn Celery Stick ink for the background of the jar and distress oxide inks Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn for the pickles.

  1. I’m so glad to know that I am not the only one who thinks that the stencils are unnecessary in a lot of cases. I have bought a lot of the matching stencils for LF products but not for every set. The little tiny ones really make me scratch my head. It’s far easier just to grab a colored pencil and color them!

    Love your card.
